So it doesn’t have the adjustability of the Union Force or Atlas but it’s on par with the Strata and Contact Pro and even better than some higher-end Union binding. It has decent high back rotation, an adjustable heel loop but a fixed toe ramp/gas pedal. Highback Flex: Pretty middle ground and like a lot of high backs we like in Unions line that twist well but have less give when pulling straight back.īinding to Boot Adjustability: There is a lot of good stuff going on when it comes to adjusting your binding around your boot. If you can pay $30 more for the Contact Pro I would suggest doing that as well. So I found the Union Force, Strata, and Contact Pro to be much better bindings than the STR but you have to pay $70 more for the Force and Strata. ![]() Then you can turn the disc sideways and get really excellent stance width adjustability as well. You can really dial out your boot size to this binding. I can’t tell you how much time was lost over the years looking for that damn little black screw in my office and in resort parking lots. The Union STR has great adjustability and it even has a really cool cover over the discs that keeps them in place without a screw. The Union STR has great ratchets and they work perfectly right out of the box. The Union STR is great in messy snow and riding uneven terrain off piste for this price point. There is a great ankle strap happening here that is right on par with the Union Force, better than the Contact pro and a massive bump up support wise from the Flite Pro. It isn’t there with the Force or Contact Pro though. There is good shock absorption with the Union STR and I felt like it offered more than the Flite Pro by a good bit. I would love to see some improved response here. For some reason that cheap Flite pro turned the Capita Mercury easier than the STR’s. I thought the Union STR would have a little more response than the Flite Pro but it was actually the opposite. The Union STR has a little stiffer flex underfoot than the Flite Pro and it’s in another world compared to the Contact Pro in terms of having an easy flex underfoot. It is more on par with the Contact Pro so still a pretty mellow high back flex. The Union STR has a pretty easy twist and give when pulling back but it’s a little stiffer than the Flite Pro. Then another day I put the STR on one foot and the Flite Pro on the other and then switched feet. I rode these one day on the Capita Mercury during a binding sampler. Your surgeon uses a telescope-like device with a tiny camera attached to it (endoscope) to see inside the carpal tunnel. The surgery may be performed with two different techniques:Įndoscopic surgery. The goal of carpal tunnel surgery is to relieve pressure by cutting the ligament pressing on the median nerve. Surgery may be appropriate if symptoms are severe or don't respond to other treatments. When I teach the game I’m going to call it trump (because that’s what people are familiar with) which means going forward we’re most likely going to call it trump too. I think they were just trying to fit more with a fairy tale theme but the change is really unnecessary. This may be the most minor nitpick of a game so far, but they call the trump card the “decree” card. I guess there are plenty of other trick taking games that fill that need though. It would make the game more versatile, but maybe it throws off the balance. It would have been nice if the game maybe included a fourth or fifth suit to use if you wanted to include more players. The only problem is they’ve done such a good job that I sometimes wish I could play this game at a larger player count. It is amazing that they managed to make a two player game that provides the same feeling you get playing a four player trick taker. The player count is the games greatest strength, and it’s only weakness. The tree suits of Fox in the Forest: moons, bells and keys You’re still going to want to look at your hand and decide which range you’re going to try to hit, which you may have to modify as the game progresses! Player Aides There is a huge difference between taking 3 tricks (6 points) and taking 4 tricks (1 point). You don’t have to spend time deciding how many tricks you want to take, but you definitely still need a plan. The scoring mechanism both simplifies and complicates the game. Not having too many powers helps the game keep the feel of a traditional trick taker. If every card had a special ability the game would quickly get overwhelming, but having abilities on only half of the cards makes you carefully consider when to use them. Putting them on half of the cards also feels about right. They inject that extra bit of strategic thinking that you expect from a good trick taking game, and can have game changing results if played at the right time. The special abilities are a big part of what makes this game work. What we like about Fox in the Forest Special Abilities For a shorter game they recommend playing to 16. The rules actually state that you can play up to any number you want depending on how long you want the game to take. To score the most points you either need to take very few tricks, or a lot of them… but not TOO many! The game has preset point values based on the number of tricks taken. Again, this doesn’t really lend itself to a 2 player game, but Fox in the Forest has another ingenious fix. Part of the fun is looking at your hand and trying to figure out how many tricks you can take. ScoringĪnother big part of most trick taking games is bidding. Take a trick that contains a 7 and get a point. Play a 11 and the other player must either play the 1 of that suit or their highest card of that suit. Play an 5 and you get to draw a card form the deck and discard a card from your hand to the bottom of the deck. Play a 3 and you get to change the trump suit. Fox in the Forest fixes this problem by introducing special abilities on half of the cards, The odd numbered cards in this game all have potentially game changing abilities. |
